Artist Spotlight - Marcel Vertes

Duke and Duchess of Windsor, Age 11

I was recently at Neiman Marcus in Beverly Hills looking for a gift and came across such a nice collection of art by Marcel Vertes.  And it was practically hidden in the hallway downstairs on the way to the restrooms!  Loved his use of color and fluid lines and the softness of his work.

Marcel Vertes (1895 - 1961) was a Hungarian costume designer, illustrator, painter and scenic artist. He won two Academy Awards (Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction) for his work in the 1952 movie Moulin Rouge.  He also painted the original murals in Cafe Carlyle in the Carlyle Hotel in NYC.  What a delightful find!
